Do you have the same problem I do?
As a millennial, I have some serious social anxiety. Anytime someone shakes my hand and tells me their name, I forget it instantly. I spend the rest of the conversation panicking and wondering if there will be a quiz at the end of the night where I need to name all the people I met and to list one fun fact about them. Y’know - icebreaker hell.
Anyway, just so you’re not all, “Do I know you?” or “Um....and you are....?” whenever you see me in your Medium feed, let’s get to know each other. That way, we don’t have to fake it.
Me: - Born in Atlanta, Georgia and never left
- I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 5 and didn’t really understand how it worked until I was sitting in a high-risk pregnancy lecture during nursing school with my jaw on the floor.
- I worked as a freelancing cellist for many years before realizing I needed to get my shit together for the sake of health insurance. Now I’m a registered nurse and a certified diabetes care and education specialist.
- Unapologetic Swiftie - my favorite album is Reputation because I’m chaotic and vengeful.
- I’m a Leo and need a ton of validation and attention.
- I like to think of myself as a diabetes fairy godmother. No transformation is too out of reach!! BONUS: you won’t turn into a pumpkin or have to wear glass slippers with me either.
- I believe all people deserve love, peace, and cake. I'm so glad you're here, friend. This is a safe place for people with diabetes and those who love them. My stories are educational and inclusive. We stand for science and evidence based research here, so you'll never read about anything crazy or untruthful.
I've got you.
